Gospel of Joseph, Journal of New Religious Writings
Editors
The Gospel of Joseph consists of scholarly attempts to develop new Gospels that can contribute to our understanding of Jesus' pacificist ministry. If we uncovered the Gospel of Joseph (GOJ), attributed to his father, what might it say? Joseph was presumed dead before Jesus joined John's ministry but consider the alternative. If we had the technology to send a document back in time to the first century (preferably), what might this document say? Journal articles are written in English, but Greek is encouraged, especially when a specific word adjusts common interpretations of English syntax or phrasing. What if the GOJ was written in Rome, or Jerusalem, or Corinth at the time of Paul's ministry? What if Paul encountered it on the road to Damascus prior or after his vision? Expression is the highest form of sensory processing in the brain and this ongoing exercise in expression and re-creation is an analytical tool for understanding early Christian works. Is GOJ a narrative gospel or a sayings gospel or a little of both? Which stories or saying do we use to get our new message across? What if John and Joseph were the same person? Can we think up new sayings or events that are more illuminative than the ones we have? Submissions should build on previous attempts as we refine each new modern-day gospel and analyze existent texts and plausible developmental process of early Christian writing. Although the journal is titled GOJ, we want to construct a Gospel of Gabriel, or the Sermons of Stephen, or the Gospel of the Zealots and the Pythagoreans. Anything that will be helpful. Scholars of cultural anthropology, classics, religious studies, psychologists, brain scientists, mathematicians, and other disciplines are invited to submit manuscripts for review and online publication.
